Originally released by UNC Jazz Press, A Day at Stanhope is now available for the first time through Burnihla Music Publishing. This is one of Neil’s most imaginative compositions. The introductory chorale paints a beautiful picture of the sun rising over the north coast of Prince Edward Island. Switching gears smoothly, it moves into a piano ostinato, followed by a mesmerizing trombone scoring that evokes waves, over which the haunting solo voice enters. The solo can be performed on soprano sax or clarinet. Rhythm parts are fully notated. Written ranges: trumpet C6 (opt. F6), trombone G4. (Instrumentation: SATTB saxes, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, piano, guitar, bass, drums) |
